Musical legend, and proud 'Bard of Barking', Billy Bragg delivered a passionate and inspiring speech at Eastside's 2008 Working Lives of the Thames Gateway conference.
Billy drew deeply on his family and his own personal experiences to explain what a unique part of the world East London is.
Billy endorsed the work of Eastside and argued that East London is steeped in community history which we must not only preserve, but actively celebrate. He drew upon his recent book 'The Progressive Patriot' to show how much we have to be proud of in our own communities.
Billy closed with an inspirational call that “local history and projects like this can bind our communities together and show what we have in common, in the face of those who try to divide us.”
